Official status & archaeological view
Official status
It was designated a component of the National Historic Site Oyamato Kofun Group on 6 October 2014.
Archaeological view
An approximately 120m square-fronted, square-backed mound at Joganji, Tenri, dated to the first half of the Early Kofun period. Investigations in 1995–96 identified a 6.8m pit-style stone chamber and a wooden coffin.
Field notes
Paddy fields and orchards surround the mound. According to the Tenri City Tourism Association, the summit is not cultivated and offers a fine view over the basin, but late autumn to winter is recommended because of snakes and other creatures.
