Located in Hirai, Wakayama City (193-1 Hirai and other plots); haniwa excavated here are displayed at the nearby Hirai History Materials Room. A prefectural historic site regarded as Wakayama Prefecture's only concrete example linking haniwa production kilns with the mound they supplied.
Finds & research
Quiver-shaped (koroku-gata), double-leg ring-pattern and other haniwa came from the artifact-bearing layer southeast of Kiln No.2. The kiln walls retain traces of heating, and burnt soil, carbonized material and haniwa fragments were recorded in the ash dump of Kiln No.2 (2017 excavation report).
