Group of 7 late-period mounds on a ridge straddling southern Wakayama City and Iwade City — a Wakayama Prefectural Historic Site. 6th century. Mounds No.1 and No.2 are thought to have Iwase-type stone chambers (stone shelf and beam), the same type as those of the Iwase-Senzuka group. Built at a key transportation point near the confluence of the Kinokawa and Kishi rivers, it is regarded as the burial place of powerful local figures; Mound No.2 retains a complete stone chamber with a two-tier stone shelf.
Finds & research
Finds include miniature Haji-ware rice-cooking implements, rare even within the prefecture.
