Overview
A keyhole mound in the south-western part of the Furuichi group. It is 115m long, with a 63m rear circle and a 128m-wide front section—about twice the rear-circle diameter. Terrain constrained the moat; there is an embankment near the front for regulating the water level, and a projection lies north of the constriction. A second moat was confirmed in a fiscal 2003 survey. The Imperial Household Agency administers it as Emperor Seinei's Kochi no Sakado no Hara mausoleum.
Finds & research
The burial facility is unconfirmed. A fiscal 2003 survey outside the known moat identified a second moat and recovered haniwa that date the mound to around the first half of the 6th century.
Official status & archaeological view
Official status
The IHA lists its official form as zenpo-koen (keyhole). It is designated as the mausoleum of Emperor Seinei (22nd Emperor) and managed by the IHA Archives and Mausolea Department. Formally named Kochi-no-Sakado-no-Hara-no-Misasagi.
Attribution (jitei): the Imperial Household Agency's determination of whose tomb it manages — separate from heritage designation.
Archaeological view
The actual occupant and burial facility have not been confirmed. An outer moat was identified in a fiscal 2003 survey, and based on the excavated haniwa, the mound is thought to have been built around the first half of the 6th century.
