Official status & archaeological view
Official status
Managed by the IHA as the Ochi-no-Okanoe Mausoleum of Empress Saimei (Kogyoku re-enthroned). In front of the mausoleum, the IHA also designates the Ochi-no-Okanoe Tomb of her granddaughter Princess Ota. The IHA lists its official form as a round mound (enkyu).
Attribution (jitei): the Imperial Household Agency's determination of whose tomb it manages — separate from heritage designation.
Archaeological view
Separately from the IHA designation, Asuka Village states that the leading view, based on its location, the teeth and other evidence, regards Kengoshizuka Kofun↗ as the joint tomb of Empress Saimei and Princess Hashihito, and Nara Prefecture's heritage database considers that, together with the adjacent Koshitsuka-Gomon Kofun↗, it matches the Nihon Shoki's account of the Ochi-no-Okanoe Mausoleum and Princess Ota's tomb before it, and is highly likely to be that mausoleum.
Field notes
Worship from the IHA oratory; generally open for visits 08:30–17:00.
