IHA designationManaged by the IHA (mound closed to the public)

Overview

A designated tomb beside Emperor Kinmei's mausoleum in Hirata, Asuka. Four Monkey Stones stand within the precinct.

Finds & research

The public sources consulted do not record a burial facility or finds for the tomb itself; the four Monkey Stones were relocated from another site.

Official status & archaeological view

Official status
Managed by the IHA as the Hinokuma Tomb of Kibihime-no-Miko, mother of Empress Kogyoku (Saimei) and Emperor Kotoku; it adjoins Emperor Kinmei's mausoleum↗ on the southwest.
Attribution (jitei): the Imperial Household Agency's determination of whose tomb it manages — separate from heritage designation.
Archaeological view
An IHA-designated tomb whose archaeological form, size, date, and burial facility are not established in the public record. The four Monkey Stones now inside the enclosure were unearthed in 1702 from rice paddies south of Emperor Kinmei's mausoleum and moved here in the Meiji period; they are not grave goods from this tomb.
