An imperial mausoleum at Fukakusa Higashidatecho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, managed by the IHA as the tomb of Emperor Ninmyo, the 54th emperor. According to a Kyoto City Archaeological Research Institute bulletin, an excavation north of the mausoleum in 1960, ahead of construction of the Meishin Expressway, yielded haniwa fragments.
Official status & archaeological view
Official status
Managed by the IHA as the mausoleum of Emperor Ninmyo, the 54th emperor; the official form is a square tumulus (hokyu).
Attribution (jitei): the Imperial Household Agency's determination of whose tomb it manages — separate from heritage designation.
Archaeological view
The IHA visitor page does not give its archaeological size, construction date, or burial structure. A Kyoto City excavation report (fiscal 2017) states that Emperor Ninmyo was buried at Fukakusa-no-Misasagi in the third month of 850 (a date from historical records, not the construction date of the present mound).
