An imperial mausoleum at Takeda Jobodaiin-cho, Fushimi-ku, Kyoto, managed by the Imperial Household Agency as the tomb of Emperor Konoe, the 76th emperor.
Finds & research
According to Kyoto City, Emperor Konoe's remains were reburied from Chisokuin in the Shinmito pagoda, originally built as the tomb of Empress Bifukumon-in. A report by the IHA Archives and Mausolea Department states that the remains were moved into this pagoda in 1163 and that the extant tahoto pagoda is its successor. Burial facilities and grave goods are not publicly detailed.
Official status & archaeological view
Official status
Managed by the IHA as the mausoleum of Emperor Konoe, the 76th emperor; the official form is a tahoto pagoda.
Attribution (jitei): the Imperial Household Agency's determination of whose tomb it manages — separate from heritage designation.
Archaeological view
The period dates the reconstruction of the present pagoda in 1606, rather than the death of Emperor Konoe or the construction of the original tower. According to a report by the IHA Archives and Mausolea Department, the earlier tower collapsed in the great earthquake of 1596, and a ridge tablet recording the building of the pagoda in 1606 is kept at Anrakujuin. Kyoto City and Jonangu state that the present pagoda was rebuilt in 1606 by Toyotomi Hideyori.
